Sudbury Park and Rec sets capital priorities, eyes pool gutters and Fairbank pavilion

SUDBURY — July 11, 2022 — Sudbury Park and Rec eyes pool gutter replacement and Fairbank pavilion as top capital priorities. Chair Mara Huston told the July 11 commission that Rep. Carmine Gentile had requested recreation items for a state economic development bill, and she submitted previously approved ARPA asks: an accessible bus, an outdoor pavilion at Fairbank, and a second basketball court with lights for both. Members ranked replacing the Atkinson Pool's corroded gutters — estimated at roughly $36,000 in 2008 — as a top priority, targeting the August 2024 shutdown. Resident Kevin proposed relocating Feeley pickleball lines at about $495 per court versus a $13,000 town estimate, while data from player Craig Blake showed noise jumped more than 30 decibels at the condos when play shifted to the far court. New Facilities Director Sandra Duran reported fencing went up Monday and pavement pulverization begins next week. The commission added an Aug. 15 meeting.
