Sudbury historic panel rejects HardiePlank substitute on new Concord Road home

SUDBURY — October 6, 2022 — Sudbury Historic Districts Commission denies HardiePlank substitute, costing applicant $29,000. Meeting Oct. 6 with three of five members present, the commission refused to revisit its earlier cedar-siding requirement for a new home at 4 Confidence Way, where the owner said builder estimates put cedar at $81,000 against $63,000 for HardiePlank plus $15,000 in painting. Chair Fred Taylor said the synthetic product "doesn't conform to an historic district," and Vice Chair Taryn Trexler and member Christopher Hagger agreed; the case was continued to Nov. 3 with a suggestion to price pine. The commission separately approved 36 replacement windows at 96 Bent Road, requiring Marvin Elevate SDL units on the nine front windows, and approved a redesigned composite handicap-ramp railing at the 361 Boston Post Road William Raveis renovation. Taylor announced he will retire from the commission at year-end after roughly 10 years of service.
