Sudbury commission approves temporary replacement windows at lead-stricken home

SUDBURY — November 3, 2022 — Sudbury historic panel approves temporary replacement windows at lead-tainted home. The Historic Districts Commission on Nov. 3 voted to allow Jeld-Wen replacement windows on the northwest facade of 22 King Philip Road for up to two years after owners Jordan Box and Christine Avena said state lead law forced them out following their son's lead exposure. Eight original sashes must be stored on the premises, and the owners must return by Nov. 1, 2024, with a permanent solution. The panel also split 3-2 to permit vinyl replacement windows but require a wood front door at the 1985-built 6 Brimstone Lane home, exposing a divide over how strictly to apply district standards to modern houses. Member Anuraj Shah said he would not "approve a Harvey vinyl window in a historic district" on the record. The commission also backed a $35,000 Community Preservation Act grant for a town-wide indigenous archaeology survey.
