Sudbury HDC continues case on doors installed without approval, approves boulder farm sign

SUDBURY — December 4, 2025 — Sudbury Historic Districts Commission orders a second look at doors installed before any vote was taken. Vice Chair Taryn Trexler, chairing in the absence of Chair Anuraj Shah, led a 3-0 vote to continue Case 25-35 at 230 Old Sudbury Road, where homeowner Jim Francis had two 20-gauge steel doors installed the day after no one appeared at his November hearing. "We typically do not approve metal doors within the historic district, especially on a house that's so close to the road," Trexler said. Member Christopher Hagger said approving after-the-fact installations would call into question "the purpose of our commission." The body unanimously approved a boulder sign for Mastroianni Farm at 12 Harvey's Farm Lane with a leather-finish sandblast condition, PVC columns at 19 Carriageway and a 26-panel rear-roof solar array for Donna Mead at 59 Carriageway. Three other cases were continued to January 8 for applicant no-shows or recusal-induced lack of quorum.
