Sudbury Finance Committee reviews 3.3 percent FY24 budget guidance

SUDBURY — November 28, 2022 — Sudbury Finance Committee absorbs a resignation and sets fiscal 2024 budget guidance at 3.3 to 3.6 percent. Co-Chair Michael Joachim announced that member Blair has resigned; the panel will appoint a replacement through May 2023 before the town moderator fills the remainder of the term. Town Finance Director Dennis walked members through a projected $102.14 million property tax levy, $6.7 million in state aid and $372,754 in excess levy capacity, explaining that Sudbury Public Schools receives 3.6 percent — rather than 3.3 — because of school-based Medicaid reimbursement. Member Henry Sorett pushed for tougher scrutiny of legal spending and police details, vowing he would not be a "go-along or get-along FinCom member." A multi-year review showed Town Meeting approved roughly five articles the committee had disapproved in 2022 alone.
