Sudbury Finance Committee adopts updated procedures, opens FY26 budget review

SUDBURY — August 12, 2024 — Sudbury Finance Committee adopts annual procedures update and opens a structured run-up to the FY26 budget. The committee voted 8-0 on Aug. 12 to approve its Rules and Operating Procedures as amended, with member Andrew Bettinelli absent. Co-Chair Michael Joachim flagged a five-year capital plan now showing roughly $17 million in current-year needs — about three times last year's $5 million package — driven by a $4 million Lincoln-Sudbury roof item and a $7 million town hall item. Member Henry Sorett pushed to study privatizing the town ambulance service and to revisit the municipal lockup and fueling station as "structural waste," while Joachim cautioned restraint during a collective bargaining year. Member Ryan Lynch reported SPS closed FY24 with roughly $300,000 in teacher salary savings being redirected to building maintenance and an ELA review. The committee set tentative meetings for Sept. 16, Sept. 30, Oct. 21 and Nov. 4.
