Sudbury CPC sends five warrant articles to spring town meeting

SUDBURY — January 25, 2023 — Sudbury CPC clears five warrant articles and takes aim at outdated CPA digital rules. The Community Preservation Committee on Jan. 25 unanimously approved warrant articles for accessible pathways, the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail CSX extension, the Curtis outdoor health and wellness space, fencing and lights at the Fairbank multi-sport court, and Phase 5 of the historic resource inventory survey, and authorized planning staff to sign and submit them. After member John objected that the original pathways article was too narrow — "This isn't about accessible pathways to athletic fields, this is about accessible pathways full stop" — the title was rewritten to cover ADA-compliant pathways on designated town properties, including the DPW garage. Chair Sherrill Cline reworded the rail trail article to track CPA's "create" verb after Framingham's purchase of its CSX segment opened the door to a longer design reach toward Route 20 and beyond. Member Kirsten Roopenian, calling state limits on digital-preservation projects "baloney" that "haven't moved into this century," agreed to draft a letter to legislators, the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the Community Preservation Coalition seeking statutory updates.
