Sudbury building committee advances DPW roof article ahead of solar install

SUDBURY — January 26, 2023 — Sudbury Permanent Building Committee strips dollar figure from DPW roof article pending design and bids. Co-Chairs Craig E Blake and Elaine L Jones, with staff lead Sandra, agreed the warrant article — drafted at $400,000 against a 20-year-old roofer's quote — should go to May town meeting without a fixed number, then be updated once an engineer's design and bids are in hand. The Energy Committee is covering roughly $30,000 to hire the designer. Member Mark warned costs could be "substantially more" than $300,000 once ice-dam repairs and the new stretch energy code are factored in, possibly "double." The roof must be replaced before a Select solar array goes up. Separately, member Jennifer K Pincus is fielding five Select Board questions on Jack Ryan's $200,000 Fairbank AV placeholder article, with a ~$10,000 redesign likely funded by outside fundraising rather than project contingency. December minutes were approved unanimously.
