Sudbury CPC advances rail trail and Nobscot housing articles to town meeting

SUDBURY — April 5, 2023 — Sudbury Community Preservation Committee advances rail trail and Nobscot Road housing articles to town meeting. The committee voted unanimously April 5 to forward both items, which Planning and Community Development Director Adam Deschano said have been placed on the consent calendar. The rail trail design article supports a segment running from Station Road across Route 20 to Eaton Road on the Framingham line, with construction roughly estimated at $6 million through MassDOT's TIP program and design at about $1 million. The $438,000 Nobscot Road article would fund acquisition and design for a potential three-to-24-unit affordable housing project being scoped by the Cambridge Housing Authority and Beals and Thomas; the Sudbury Housing Authority and Affordable Housing Trust have each kicked in $35,000 for feasibility work. Chair Sherrill Cline said town counsel added language making each grant "subject to the Select Board to enter into grant agreements." Funds revert to the CPA pool if the housing partners ultimately walk away.
