Select Board advances Fairbank AV warrant article without final cost

SUDBURY — January 30, 2023 — Sudbury Select Board sends Fairbank AV upgrade to town meeting without a price tag. The board voted 5-0 Monday to submit a warrant article for enhanced audiovisual equipment at the Fairbank Community Center, despite not yet knowing the cost, equipment list or funding source, with the motion conditioned on later approval of the town meeting presentation. PBC project manager Jennifer Pincus said a $13,460 redesign is needed to specify "universal access" assistive listening and speech reinforcement in additional program rooms beyond last year's $350,000 ADA- and MAAB-compliant base. Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran disclosed a separate pool repair article exceeding $200,000 following a Friday inspection. Member Dan Carty objected that no one had said the enhancement "must" be done now, while member Lisa Kouchakdjian countered that residents "deserve the best facility." Commission on Disability Chair Kay Bell told the board, "you are not approving this article — you are submitting it for the consideration of the voters." The board also approved a redlined small wireless facilities bylaw 5-0.
