Planning Board endorses water-resource zoning fix, opposes firearms article

SUDBURY — May 2, 2023 — Sudbury Planning Board endorses overlay-district zoning fix and formally opposes a townwide firearms petition. Meeting May 2 at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School with three members present, the board finalized its Annual Town Meeting presentation on an amendment to Section 4200 of the zoning bylaw, which would let uses permitted in underlying districts be authorized in the Water Resource Protection Overlay District by Planning Board special permit. The board then voted 3-0 to endorse a written statement opposing Article 55, a citizen petition banning the "sales, assembly, and/or manufacturing of firearms, and/or components thereof, ammunition and explosives in all zoning districts," finding it "unclear and challenging for town staff to interpret and effectively enforce" and "likely to lead to unforeseen outcomes." Chair Stephen Garvin tied the opposition to the master plan's 154 actions, none of which raised the issue. Staff planner Adam announced May 19 as his last day after more than four years.
