Planning Board conditions Cato Drive permit on tree well, abutter protection

SUDBURY — September 14, 2022 — Sudbury Planning Board attaches tree-well condition to contested Cato Drive stormwater permit. The board voted 3-0, with Chair Stephen Garvin abstaining after joining late, to approve the Lot 15 Cato Drive permit with conditions including a performance bond, a phased erosion-control plan, and construction of a tree well preserving an 11-inch-circumference oak rooted on the abutting 23 Cato Drive property. Abutter Martin Young told the board the developer's plan was "driven by economics" and vowed to "take action" against any removal of the tree. Vice-Chair John Sugrue said "a minor shift of that wall would likely be able to save that tree." The board also approved a $200,622 completion bond for the Goddard School at 423-437 Boston Post Road, delegated stormwater authority for the Mayflower Council's 250-acre Nobscot Scout Reservation trail rehabilitation to the Conservation Commission, and heard a Zoning Board of Appeals proposal from member Frank Reap to ban firearm sales and manufacturing in any Sudbury zoning district.
