Park and Recreation Commission approves three revolving funds for spring town meeting

SUDBURY — January 16, 2024 — Sudbury Park and Recreation approves revolving funds, finalizes annual report path as Fairbank opens half-built. The commission unanimously approved three revolving fund articles — including the recreation fund capped at $570,000 and a $15,000 teen center fund — for the spring town meeting warrant. Director Dennis Mannone reported the Atkinson Pool reopened Jan. 2 with about 100 monthly memberships but remains down a supervisor position posted four times with zero applicants, masking roughly $70,000 in annual salary savings. Pool families have been rerouted through the senior center entrance over safety concerns at the dark Fairbank Road crossing, where Chair Mara Huston said she has seen cars fail to stop at an activated beacon. Demolition of the old Fairbank building is targeted for Jan. 22. The commission authorized Chair Ben Carmel and Vice-Chair Laurie Eliason to finalize its annual town report ahead of a Jan. 26 deadline, with Huston pressing that the report credit staff who delivered programs "inundated by the construction."
