Park and Recreation Commission approves Featherland plaque and Atkinson scoreboard

SUDBURY — November 13, 2023 — Sudbury Park and Recreation clears a softball memorial plaque and a donor-funded Atkinson Pool scoreboard. The commission voted 3-0 on Nov. 13 to allow the Sudbury Men's Softball League to hang a multi-name memorial plaque at Featherland — first honoring 29-year league sponsor Neil Shiffman, who died in September at 72 — and 3-0 to support a Colorado Timing scoreboard replacement at the Atkinson Pool funded by Lincoln-Sudbury athletics, the LS Sports Boosters and the Sudbury Swim Team. Vice-Chair Laurie Eliason, sitting in for Chair Ben Carmel, ran the meeting alongside members Mara Huston and Robert Beagan. Director Dennis reported the pool enterprise fund is roughly $21,000 in the red, the field fund roughly $17,000 in the black, and a full-time aquatic supervisor opening is being re-advertised a fourth time with no applicants. Huston said Fairbank Community Center furniture moves Nov. 30, with the facility shut Dec. 11–26 to switch pool power; the installed Allegion security cameras differ from the specified Flir model and will be patched to integrate with police video management, Combined Facility Director Sandra Duran said.
