Park and Recreation Commission approves Featherland batting cage expansion

SUDBURY — January 9, 2023 — Sudbury Park and Rec greenlights privately funded Featherland batting cage expansion. The commission voted 5-0 Monday to approve a Lincoln-Sudbury Youth Baseball plan to replace a single semi-permanent tunnel with two permanent 70-foot hanging-net cages, each 12 feet high and 14 feet wide, fully paid for through a baseball fundraising campaign. President Mark Spector said internal netting will allow the structure to split into four 35-foot bays "to create more capacity." Director Dennis Mannone said the DPW will likely handle site prep. Separately, Chair Mara Huston pressed the town to commit free cash, not pool enterprise retained earnings, to cover the roughly $25,000 to $30,000 in monthly fixed costs during the Fairbank-related pool shutdown. The Community Preservation Committee last week approved Feely Phase 2 funding, reduced by $100,000 for a Park and Rec irrigation contribution.
