Park and Rec rejects Haskell Field solar canopy proposal in 3-1 vote

SUDBURY — November 17, 2025 — Sudbury's Park and Recreation Commission voted 3-1 against the Haskell Field solar canopy project days before town meeting takes it up. The commission heard a presentation from Combined Facility Director Sandra Duran and Byron Woodman of Solect on the proposed power-purchase-agreement installation, which would scale similarly to the Lincoln-Sudbury canopies. Chair Mara Huston, Vice-Chair Laurie Eliason and member Robert Beagan opposed; member Granger voted yes. Eliason said "the scale is too large," and Beagan said the canopies would "lose the vista of that open area." The commission separately voted 4-0 to back three CPC design articles — $122,000 for Davis Field, $214,000 for Broadacres-Featherland and the Parkinson Field parking lot ($1,319,000 estimate, or $856,000 without utilities) — with Davis fast-tracked to construction funding at the 2027 town meeting.
