Park and Rec approves Davis Field bobolink sign 4-1 with edits

SUDBURY — June 3, 2024 — Sudbury Park and Recreation approves bobolink sign at Davis Field 4-1 over playing-field concerns. The commission backed Conservation Director Lori Capone's request to post seasonal signage about ground-nesting bobolinks through July 31, with edits removing a spotted-salamander image and limiting the approval to 2024. Member Robert "Bobby" Beagan voted no, warning that "it's hard to walk it back" if recreation land drifts into protected habitat. Director Dennis told the commission that roughly $175,000 to $185,000 a year covers four half-time parks-and-grounds workers entirely from field permit revenue, and that shifting one half-time position to the town budget would free about $43,000. Chair Ben will meet with Town Manager Andy Sheehan and invite Combined Facilities Director Sandra to clarify Fairbank Community Center cost allocation. Summer camp begins July 1 with session two enrolled at about 110 children.
