Lincoln-Sudbury approves FY24 budget and overhauls athlete substance policy

SUDBURY -- February 7, 2023, Lincoln-Sudbury Regional School Committee approves FY24 budget and aligns athlete substance policy with MIAA, effective immediately. The committee voted 5-0 Tuesday to adopt the budget after closing a $152,000 gap, assuming a 14 percent out-of-district tuition increase, 8 percent health insurance growth and a 2 percent teacher salary increase; the Circuit Breaker offset rose from $3 million to $3.05 million. Superintendent-Principal Bella said the in-district autism program with NAC will produce roughly $630,000 in cost avoidance next year, up from about $100,000 this year, and that Global Scholars enrollment is projected above 150 students. Members also dropped the local "presence" rule for athletes, member Harold called the prior policy "a bad policy", and approved a 2023-24 Program of Studies adding a Thursday advisory block and a combined Algebra I/Geometry two-year track. The superintendent search profile was locked as final.
