Lincoln-Sudbury approves FY24 budget and overhauls athlete substance policy

SUDBURY — February 7, 2023 — Lincoln-Sudbury Regional School Committee approves FY24 budget and aligns athlete substance policy with MIAA, effective immediately. The committee voted 5-0 Tuesday to adopt the budget after closing a $152,000 gap, assuming a 14 percent out-of-district tuition increase, 8 percent health insurance growth and a 2 percent teacher salary increase; the Circuit Breaker offset rose from $3 million to $3.05 million. Superintendent-Principal Bella said the in-district autism program with NAC will produce roughly $630,000 in cost avoidance next year, up from about $100,000 this year, and that Global Scholars enrollment is projected above 150 students. Members also dropped the local "presence" rule for athletes — member Harold called the prior policy "a bad policy" — and approved a 2023-24 Program of Studies adding a Thursday advisory block and a combined Algebra I/Geometry two-year track.
