Historic Districts Commission approves Hudson Road stair, continues Building 1 to August

SUDBURY — July 6, 2023 — Sudbury Historic Districts Commission clears Hudson Road stair, sends bigger renovation back for redesign. The commission on July 6 unanimously approved a revised exterior fire escape at 29 Hudson Road Building 2 designed by Brigitte Steins of Inkstone Architects, but continued Building 1 to Aug. 3 over a proposed shed dormer, an elevator tower, and added windows. Chair Anuraj Shah said the Building 2 stair "reads as a necessity or a necessary evil." Member Christopher Hagger called the proposed gambrel dormer "completely not authentic," while Vice Chair Taryn Trexler noted both buildings were designed in 1969 by Sudbury architect Robert Desjardins, a founding member of this commission. The commission also approved 10 sash restorations at the Wayside Inn with period-correct glass and muntins keyed to each section's construction date, sign and step approvals at 357 and 361 Boston Post Road, and three St. Elizabeth's Church applications.
