Historic Districts Commission approves five projects, mandates wood windows on 1956 cape

SUDBURY — October 2, 2025 — Sudbury Historic Districts Commission approves five applications and tightens its wood-window standard on a 1956 cape. At the October 2 remote meeting, Chair Anuraj Shah and members Taryn Trexler, Griff Noble, Peter Iovanella and associate Shervin Hawley unanimously cleared gutter, signage, roofing, accessory-structure and window cases. The commission required the Sudbury Foundation, represented by Executive Director Sonia Shah, to use fiberglass rather than metal gutters at 326 Concord Road to preserve an integrated eave detail. On the cemetery signage at 334 Concord Road, applicants Jan Costa and Ellen Niederman won approval for a framed National Park Service-style pedestal at a 30-degree angle, with Hawley designated to review color proofs. At 404 Concord Road, owners Philip and Hillary Van Hurries were denied Andersen Fibrex units; Shah said "1950s is different than 1990s" in distinguishing the case from an approved 1993 Carriage Way accessory structure, and the commission limited replacements to wood-wood simulated divided light from Jeld-Wen, Andersen, Marvin or Pella.
