Historic Districts Commission approves five projects in single September session

SUDBURY — September 4, 2025 — Sudbury Historic Districts Commission clears five projects and narrows Revolutionary War Cemetery sign design. The board, chaired by Anuraj Shah, voted unanimously Sept. 4 on Certificates of Appropriateness for St. Elizabeth's Church (24 Andersen-series parish-hall windows at 1 Morse Road), a 27-panel Brightway Energy solar installation at 68 King Philip Road conditioned on a GAF charcoal architectural shingle reroof, three Pella casement replacements at 115 Old Sudbury Road, a stone front porch in Southport veneer and blue mist granite at 19 Colburn Circle, and a six-by-six white wooden number post at 925 Boston Post Road. Homeowner Susan Karboni said she would "frankly be much happier" with a darker roof to mask the panels. Building chair Stephen Kirby told the board casement upgrades would cost the church roughly $18,000 more than gliders. The longest discussion concerned the Sudbury Historical Society's proposed cemetery kiosk: the commission settled on Adobe Caslon over Times New Roman and asked the designer to redraw a stone-wall graphic Shah said reads as "a chain."
