Goodnow trustees approve professional development policy and Makerspace update

SUDBURY -- September 3, 2024, Goodnow trustees adopt staff development policy, end public booking of the Makerspace and back a $35,000 trust request. The Sept. 3 meeting drew four of six trustees, with Chair Jean presiding and members Lissa and Katina Fontes absent. Library Director Esme reported a roughly $92,000 Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness grant with a library component, a state budget that lifts public library aid by more than 13 percent, and a $28,500 haul since June toward the Goodnow Library Foundation's $50,000 Bradshaw endowment match ahead of the Oct. 18 gala. Trustees unanimously approved a new professional development policy, an updated Now Lab policy that strikes public room reservations, and a $35,000 GoodNow Trust Fund expenditure limit backed by roughly $40,000 in fund interest. FY24 circulation hit 489,000, with e-book holdings up to roughly 97,000. The director called communications work "sort of like websites in the 90s," signaling a reframed FY26 staff request.
