Finance Committee receives firm cost figures for $12 million school roof projects

SUDBURY — October 20, 2025 — Sudbury FinCom previews $12 million school roof package ahead of December vote. Assistant Town Manager Victor Garofalo told the committee Monday that the Haynes School roof is projected at $7,821,563 with $3,130,940 in MSBA reimbursement, and the Nixon School roof at $4,064,845 with $1,672,327 reimbursed, with a Dec. 1 Special Town Meeting and Dec. 16 debt exclusion election to follow. A 20-year borrowing at an assumed 5 percent rate would carry roughly $683,000 in annual debt service. Co-Chair Michael Ferrari warned of "the danger" of evaluating projects in isolation from the FY27 picture, and members Ryan Lynch and Karl Fries asked for multiple funding scenarios and a loan-terms memo. Garofalo also flagged a likely reserve fund transfer under $100,000 for vocational tuition and warned 9C state aid cuts remain "not off the table."
