Finance Committee finalizes budget pressures letter, prepares for school roof exclusion vote
SUDBURY — November 3, 2025 — Sudbury FinCom queues up $11.9 million in school roof debt exclusions for Dec. 16 vote. The Finance Committee on Nov. 3 reviewed the Haynes and Nixon Elementary roof projects, approved by the Massachusetts School Building Authority on Oct. 29 with roughly $4.7 million in reimbursement at 41 percent of eligible costs. Town Manager Andy Sheehan said the Dec. 1 Special Town Meeting warrant contains nine articles, including a citizen petition on walkway funding. Finance Director Victor Garofalo confirmed unused state Circuit Breaker funds close to free cash rather than reverting to the state, reframing a multi-year FinCom inquiry into more than $1.6 million in SPS prepayments and carryovers. Member Henry Sorett pushed colleagues to ask cost centers how they would absorb a 5 or 10 percent aid cut: "I'd like people to plan for it. So if we have the problem, it doesn't hit them in the face like a big surprise." Members approved Sept. 29 minutes 8-0-1.
