SUDBURY — The Sudbury School Committee weighed creating a Jewish parent advisory council and voted down fast-tracking a restraint-policy update. Task force co-chair Jackie Sousa cited 279 anti-Semitic incidents in Massachusetts last year and an 8 percent bullying rate among Sudbury seventh and eighth graders, up 33 percent in two years, telling the committee a PAC would let Jewish families "simply exist and feel safe." Chair Jessica said counsel warned the district "may be opening ourselves up to litigation" over a religion-specific body; no vote was taken, and the task force will draft language for legal review. Separately, members voted 2-3 against waiving the three-step process to adopt an updated physical restraint policy, with member Karen calling the rushed draft "pretty reckless." The committee also voted 5-0 to approve a superintendent search RFP targeting a hire by January 15, 2027.
