Board of Health approves three septic requests with installer conditions

SUDBURY — September 23, 2025 — Sudbury Board of Health approves three septic requests and tightens installer rules. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to allow a drip-dispersal system at 11 Massasoit Road, raise Sudbury Crossing's permitted design flow from 9,600 to 9,990 gallons per day, and permit a pumped septic system at 35 Willis Road — each conditioned on using a Sudbury-licensed installer. Engineer Pio told members the Sudbury Crossing system has averaged 1.0 mg/L total nitrogen against a 5 mg/L limit and runs at roughly 25 percent of design flow; any future increase above 9,990 gpd would require a state groundwater discharge permit. Member Susan Sama, citing prior open test pits and children brought to the 35 Willis site, told engineer Giovanni Fidera, "We can't babysit your deep holes," and the board required him to attend every scheduled inspection. Health Director Vivian reported the state has cut funding for the Metric public health data platform from $99 million to $42 million.
