Board of Health · Meeting of September 9, 2026
SUDBURY — The Sudbury Board of Health approved dinner service at Sudbury Coffee Works, capping the Union Avenue cafe at 19 seats. Chair Carol Bradford, Susan Sama and Linda Huet-Clayton voted 3-0 to let owner Roxana Sossampar add a Persian-inspired dinner menu, with the condition "limiting the establishment to a maximum of 19 seats at all times due to existing septic system capacity." Staff separately reported Shaw's Plaza businesses, including Starbucks, had closed twice recently due to a shared sewer backup now under investigation with contractor Wind River. The department is also negotiating a memorandum of understanding with the American Red Cross for emergency shelter operations ahead of a forecast "super El Nino" winter, and is drafting septic bylaw revisions targeted for a November vote and a January 1 effective date.
The board separately approved its August 12 minutes 2-0, with Bradford abstaining.
