Sudbury ZBA approves Target Painting sign, two dealership transfers, shortens Legion variance

SUDBURY — June 9, 2025 — Sudbury ZBA shortens American Legion variance to two years after abutter details compliance lapses. The Zoning Board of Appeals on June 9 unanimously renewed Post 191's use variance at 676 Boston Post Road for two years rather than the 10 requested by Commander Mike Fitzgerald, after abutter Barbara Pye of 11 Stone Road documented an unpermitted "Minuteman Bar, PUBLIC WELCOME" sign posted in May, a broken Stone Road barrier fence, and a dumpster installed in violation of the prior variance. "I have concerns about giving them a 10-year variance when they're in violation," Pye said. Chair John Riordan said he was "not persuaded" the longer term was justified. Earlier the board voted 4-1 to grant Target Painting a special permit for a six-foot freestanding sign at 708 Boston Post Road, with Riordan dissenting, and unanimously approved Attorney Joshua Fox's requests to transfer Herb Chambers' Land Rover and BMW dealership permits to Asbury Automotive Group.
