Sudbury schools budget subcommittee weighs earlier FY28 planning and electric bus RFP
SPS School Committee Budget Subcommittee · Meeting of March 26, 2026
Sudbury schools budget subcommittee moves to start FY28 planning earlier and explore electric buses. Members Jessica McCready and Betsy Sousa, meeting March 26 without Business Administrator Don, targeted early October to begin initiative and forecast discussions for fiscal year 2028, citing a potential Proposition 2 1/2 override and last year's late, rushed process. Assistant Business Administrator Brad reported maintenance spending already at 102 percent of its FY26 budget with four months left, saying consumables and unplanned repairs will push it further over.
The subcommittee also endorsed asking the district's upcoming transportation RFP to price an electric bus pilot alongside status-quo service, pending an assessment of charging capacity at the Noyes bus yard. Athletic and extracurricular fees will return April 30, with a full committee vote targeted for May 18. The subcommittee approved January 29 and March 4 minutes 2-0.
