SPS School Committee Budget Subcommittee · Meeting of August 4, 2026

SUDBURY — The Sudbury Public Schools Budget Subcommittee voted unanimously to recommend fiscal year 2028 budget guidelines and a revised budget timeline to the full School Committee. Members Karen Jones and a member identified as Betsy, both attending remotely, backed the documents along with a motion sending the METCO grant budget forward for approval. District budget staffer Buck, who also serves on the Lincoln Finance Committee, said the district should not assume it needs a Proposition 2½ override "unless we can see that we actually need" one, while members noted FY28 projections range between $2.205 million and $2.224 million depending on the source.

The district pre-purchased $190,000 in special education transportation this year, and members assigned Jones and Betsy to research special education stabilization funds used in Wayland and Reading. A parent survey on an afternoon bus option drew 74 responses, with only 10 families wanting a different route, leading one member to say "if it's not a need, then it's not a need."
