Sudbury manager floats future shift of Park and Rec salaries to enterprise funds
SUDBURY — September 16, 2024 — Sudbury town manager signals future shift of two Park and Rec salaries to enterprise funds. Town Manager Andy Sheehan told the Park and Recreation Commission on Sept. 16 that the town will likely need to transition two general-fund-supported positions into the department's enterprise and revolving accounts, though not in fiscal 2026. "I don't want to drop a $150,000 bomb in your laps," Sheehan said, adding any move would be gradual. The pool enterprise carries over $500,000 in retained earnings; the field enterprise about $100,000. Chair Mara Huston countered that the average resident pays only $28 a year toward recreation and pushed to move a $10,000 parks-maintenance line back to the general fund. Vice-Chair Laurie Eliason warned more fee dependence "could result in the demise of the recreation department." No policy votes were taken.
