Sudbury FinCom postpones co-chair election a second time, adopts FY26 rules

SUDBURY — July 14, 2025 — Sudbury Finance Committee delays co-chair election again as SPS roof project pushes town meeting to December. Co-Chair Michael Ferrari said he was open to stepping aside after several years, but Co-Chair Michael Joachim and members Ryan Lynch, Andrew Sousa and Karl Fries all declined to take the role this year, citing work demands; Ferrari and Joachim will continue at least one more meeting while restructuring chair duties. Assistant Town Manager Victor Garofalo reported the Sudbury Public Schools roof projects missed the MSBA's Aug. 29 board meeting and will now target the Oct. 28-29 meeting, triggering a 90-day window for a mid-December special town meeting and debt-exclusion ballot. The committee approved its FY26 rules and operating procedures 7-0, reappointed Andrew Bettinelli to the Community Preservation Committee, and learned the FY26 state budget delivered $6,192,944 in Chapter 70 aid and $1,742,620 in unrestricted local aid — about $199,564 above budget — which will be left as unused levy capacity rather than added to free cash.
