Sudbury Finance Committee sets Feb. 15 hearing on schools' override budget

SUDBURY — January 23, 2023 — Sudbury FinCom schedules Feb. 15 hearing on schools' $745,460 override request. The committee voted 6-0 to approve its 2022 annual town report submission and reset its fiscal 2024 budget calendar, with Lincoln-Sudbury on Feb. 6, a joint capital hearing Feb. 13, SPS on Feb. 15 and the town on Feb. 27. Sudbury Public Schools is seeking a $44,426,163 budget using $300,000 in Circuit Breaker funds and $150,000 in medical reimbursements. Co-Chairs Michael Joachim and Eric Poch clashed with member Henry "Hank" Sorett over scope, with Sorett pushing energy and payroll data requests and Poch warning the committee's "inherent role is not to second-guess management." Member Colin reported the Community Preservation Committee carries an $8.7 million reserve and advanced 12 projects against $1.8 million in projected fiscal 2024 revenue.
