Sudbury Finance Committee defers votes on solar and bus revolving fund articles
SUDBURY — April 10, 2023 — Sudbury Finance Committee defers votes on three warrant articles ahead of May 1 Town Meeting. At its April 10 meeting, the committee postponed action on Article 12, which would raise the spending limit on the school bus revolving fund, and on Articles 31 and 32 covering solar energy. A motion by member Susan to recommend Article 12 contingent on override passage was withdrawn after debate. Committee data showed the bus fund holds roughly $1 million while the district has spent nothing nine months into the fiscal year against a $450,000 limit. Member Henry P. "Hank" Sorett, reviewing the draft Fairbank solar contract, said he felt like he was "swimming in jello" and called for open bidding and coordination with SPS and Lincoln-Sudbury. Finance director Dennis confirmed the override budget will serve as the limiting motion at Town Meeting. A $980,000 school meals expense is expected to be covered by state universal free lunch reimbursement.
