SUDBURY — February 13, 2024 — Sudbury energy committee opposes Hanscom private jet hangar expansion and closes LED funding gap. The Energy and Sustainability Committee voted 6-0 Tuesday to forward a resolution against Massport's proposed 500,000-square-foot, 27-hangar expansion at Hanscom Field to the Select Board, with Chair Rami Alwan calling Massport's 2022 net-zero-by-2031 pledge inconsistent with the project. Member Olga Allen called the proposal "absolutely appalling" and questioned its benefit beyond "the top, whatever, 1 percent." Select Board liaison Jennifer Roberts confirmed the committee's resolution was the appropriate first step. In a second unanimous vote, members added $55,000 to a previously approved $98,623 to fully fund a $151,374 net interior LED retrofit across Goodnow Library, town hall, the police and fire headquarters, the Flynn Building, and fire stations 2 and 3. Combined Facilities Director Sandra said utility incentives have shrunk year over year: "Gone are the days of the big negotiation for lighting."
