Energy and Sustainability Committee · Meeting of September 8, 2026

Sudbury's Energy and Sustainability Committee voted to fund $750 for a Sustainable Sudbury social media campaign, contingent on legal review. The 5-0 vote, with members Joe Martino, John Keklak, Venk Gopal and Blair Stewart joining Olga Faktorovic-Allen, covers Sustainable Sudbury's entry into the Mass Save "Social Media Magic" tier, pending town counsel confirmation the expense is a proper use of the town's solar revolving fund. Keklak raised concerns about political neutrality, citing a past yard-sign controversy; Sustainable Sudbury's Leslie said the nonprofit "never" advocates for how residents vote.

The committee also spent over an hour on a draft battery energy storage bylaw tied to new state rules, 225 CMR 29, becoming mandatory in October, with no vote taken. Member Blair Stewart separately unveiled a new funding-prioritization rubric that scored the same $750 request as passing, versus failing under the old system.
