Sudbury CPC rejects SudburyTV digitization request as ineligible under state law

SUDBURY — January 18, 2023 — Sudbury CPC denies SudburyTV digitization funding and narrowly approves $187,744 ADA pathways project. The Community Preservation Committee voted 0-9 to reject the SudburyTV video archive request after a Department of Revenue letter and Community Preservation Coalition guidance concluded that "services such as archiving or scanning" do not qualify under the CPA. Member Jennifer Roberts called the statute "archaic for today's times"; member Kirsten Roopenian urged the Historical Commission to "move forward with this as quickly as possible" regardless. The committee then split 5-4 on Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran's $187,744 athletic-fields accessibility request, with Chair Sherrill Cline, Lynn Remington, John Hanks and Roopenian opposed over a lack of design specificity. Members unanimously advanced $300,000 for the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail CSX extension, $100,000 for Fairbank court fencing and lights, $23,000 for historic resource surveys, and a $114,500 FY24 administrative budget.
