Sudbury CIAC recommends against $100,000 Parkinson Field driveway article
SUDBURY — March 11, 2024 — Sudbury capital committee votes 2-4 against $100,000 Parkinson Field driveway article. The Capital Improvement Advisory Committee on Monday declined to recommend Article 39, which would fund engineering and permitting for the narrow gravel drive serving Parkinson Field near the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail. Member Tom Travers said the town first needs a Park and Recreation field-needs study before spending: "I'd like to see Park and Rec say we have done a study, we need this extra field." Chair Matthew Dallas and member Susan Asbedian-Ciaffi voted yes, with Asbedian-Ciaffi arguing rail-trail users "are coming and we should provide safe access for everyone." The figure derives from a Fuss & O'Neill quote and was scaled back from an original $250,000 request. The committee then approved its full spring report 6-0 for transmittal to the Select Board and Finance Committee, with Article 39 the only split recommendation of the cycle.
