Sudbury capital committee delays vote on four fall warrant articles

SUDBURY — September 18, 2023 — Sudbury's Capital Improvement Advisory Committee delayed positions on four fall warrant articles totaling roughly $2.1 million. Combined Facilities Director Sandra walked the committee through a $100,000 Atkinson Pool design appropriation, a $900,000 Fairbank Community Center supplemental, $800,000 for the Route 117/Mossman Road intersection from municipal stabilization, and a $248,000 Nixon Elementary roof schematic design. Vice-Chair Peter Iovanella defended the Fairbank ask as restoring contingency to about 9 percent of $10 million in remaining work, while member Tom Travers pressed for a line-item breakdown. Select Board member Janie Dretler clarified that Route 117 is locally maintained and Mossman was not on the town's Complete Streets list, costing up to $400,000 in possible state reimbursement. The committee will reconvene by Zoom Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. ahead of the Oct. 23 fall Town Meeting.
