Capital committee recommends Pang and Weiner, elects Dallas chair

SUDBURY — August 15, 2023 — Sudbury's Capital Improvement Advisory Committee recommends two new members and reorganizes under new chair Matthew Dallas. The committee voted 5-0 Aug. 15 to recommend Ark Pang, a retired chemical engineer with a 45-year career in international desalination projects, for a three-year term, and Richard Weiner, a former Midas Muffler franchise owner, for the one-year balance of Susan Abrams's seat. Member Thomas S. Travers flagged a potential conflict because Weiner's son-in-law, Finance Committee chair Mike Joachim, recruited him; outgoing chair Susan Asbedian-Ciaffi said she would note it in her Select Board letter. Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran told members the Atkinson Pool's 40-year-old roof is likely on a fall warrant — "it's eminent," she said — and that the $300,000 facility condition assessment will include new Capital Predictor software for 20-year forecasting. Dallas reported no procedural changes will be made to the capital review timeline before the 2024 cycle. Peter Iovanella was elected vice chair; Asbedian-Ciaffi stayed on as clerk.
