Sudbury's FY28 Budget Working Group narrowed its projected deficit to $915,000, down from $3 million, after proposing $500,000 each from free cash and the capital stabilization fund. Finance presenter Victor said revenue is projected at $5.4 million against $6.3 million in expenses, and a preliminary pension estimate could cut the gap further, to roughly $415,000. Modeling showed a flat 3 percent spending guideline across Sudbury Public Schools, Lincoln-Sudbury Regional School District and town departments would erase the deficit, while 3.5 percent would leave a $483,000 gap.
School Committee member Karen said the district closed a $1.6 million deficit last year using $461,233 in circuit breaker funds. A new SPS administrator, identified as Buck, warned of "a tremendous backlog of maintenance," including "25-year-old building management systems," across school buildings. Member Rod called the approach a "Responsible Budget Outcome." No votes were taken; the group meets next October 7.
