Park and Rec defers Haskell lacrosse wall, Cutting Field netting decisions

SUDBURY — March 4, 2024 — Sudbury Park and Rec defers two field-improvement requests pending site walk and specs. The commission spent Monday's meeting weighing a proposed concrete lacrosse pitchback wall at Haskell Field, an accessibility pathway tied to the town's ADA assessment, and a Sudbury Youth Soccer offer to fund 10 feet of additional netting behind the west goal at Cutting Field on 24-foot posts. Director Dennis said the soccer proposal "sounds like a good idea" but cited unanswered questions on contractor insurance, post structural capacity and maintenance: "The devil's in the details, and I haven't seen the details." Abutter Abby Kaufman of 17 Butler Place urged the panel to respect a 1971 walkway easement before approving any path behind her home, calling 30 feet from her bedroom window unacceptable. The commission approved Feb. 6 minutes 5-0 and moved its May 6 meeting to May 13 because of town meeting.
