LS School Committee approves 2024-25 calendar, previews two capital warrant articles
SUDBURY -- January 9, 2024, LS School Committee approves 2024-25 calendar, previews $315,600 in spring capital articles. The Jan. 9 meeting unanimously adopted the calendar, aligned with Sudbury Public Schools on start and end dates, one day ahead of Lincoln Public Schools, and heard Director of Finance and Operations Kirsteen Patterson outline two draft warrant articles for spring town meeting: $150,000 to replace an exterior stairwell and $165,600 for a lighting control panel project, with Sudbury's share at $144,585. Patterson also reported the fiscal 2023 audit closed with no management letter ("equivalent for an accountant's super bowl") and that 93.41 percent of the $34,651,586 FY24 budget is expended or encumbered. English Department Coordinator Dan Conte and teacher Danny Weiss presented on a three-year curriculum overhaul replacing period-based British and American literature courses with thematic offerings, and on the newly opened teacher-staffed Humanities Center modeled on Cafe Mathematica. Both warrant articles are scheduled for a vote Jan. 23.
