Goodnow trustees ask Friends for written, specific proposal to renew ties

SUDBURY — January 23, 2023 — Goodnow Library Trustees ask Friends group for a concrete, written proposal before reopening severed ties. After a December presentation from the Friends of the Goodnow Library, trustees voted Monday to request a written list of specific ways the Friends want to support the library. Trustee Katina Fontes said the Friends' 150-page packet contained only "a page and a half" of actual proposal and called for "an end to relitigating the past." Trustee Jean noted roughly $150,000 sits in the Friends' bank account per the group's most recent tax filing, with about $15,000 spent on legal fees. Trustee Ingrid Mayyasi dissented in tone, urging dialogue and a possible subcommittee. Select Board member Janie Dretler and former board member Len Simon both spoke in favor of direct talks. Trustees also agreed to add a public-comment slot to future agendas.
