Goodnow trustees approve plaque for donor whose $25,000 never reached library

SUDBURY — April 4, 2023 — Goodnow trustees approve plaque for a donor whose $25,000 gift never reached the library. The Goodnow Library Trustees voted April 4 to honor a family whose pandemic-era donation, routed through the Friends of the Goodnow Library on the library's recommendation, has remained with the Friends organization for two years and never reached the library itself. Director Esmé Green said she wanted to "honor the spirit of the gift" even though "not one penny has actually come to the library." The motion carried with one abstention. Friends representative Alice Levine, of 42 Chanticleer Road, told trustees during public comment that the group had not heard back from the board since January. The trustees also unanimously approved an updated programming policy, honored retiring trustee Barbara Pryor for 20 years of service, and rescheduled their May meeting to May 15 to avoid town meeting.
