Finance Committee reverses Fairbank vote, rejects Housing Authority CPA request

SUDBURY — April 14, 2025 — Sudbury Finance Committee reverses Fairbank vote and rejects Housing Authority CPA request. On a 7-2 reconsideration, the committee recommended Article 44's $500,000 Community Preservation Act request for the Fairbank Community Center and Haskell Field after Parks and Recreation Commission member Granger broke out the package — roughly $200,000 for a pavilion, $150,000 for a second multi-sport court, and $150,000 for bathroom, lighting and storage fixes. On a 4-5 vote, the committee declined to recommend Article 46, the Sudbury Housing Authority's $450,000 request toward a $4.2 million Pine Lakes redevelopment that would replace four single-family homes with four duplexes. Six neighborhood residents opposed Article 46; resident Matt Allen said the SHA's executive director told him an updated budget and pro forma "does not exist." The committee also voted 5-4 to take no position on the specialized stretch energy code, 2-7 against former member Jean Nam's petition to cut the CPA surcharge to 1.5 percent, and 9-0 against a walkway-funding citizen petition.
