Finance Committee finalizes written positions for Sudbury Town Meeting articles
SUDBURY — November 23, 2023 — Sudbury Finance Committee tunes Town Meeting language on Fairbank, firefighters and schools. Six of nine members met Monday under Co-Chair Michael Joachim to finalize written positions on the remaining warrant articles. Members agreed to add a line noting unused Fairbank contingency would revert to free cash, struck a line describing the project as having "become loaded," and softened a warning of "serious financial challenges." On the firefighters contract, the committee cut a confusing explanation of why free cash was the funding source, with Joachim conceding free cash is "one of the most confusing concepts of all of town meeting." For the Lincoln-Sudbury assessment article — expected to draw the longest floor debate — Joachim agreed to lead with a clear yes-vote/no-vote framing tied to the spring override. The committee recessed rather than adjourned ahead of the 7:30 p.m. Town Meeting.
