Conservation Commission issues second violation notice to Nobscot Scout Reservation

SUDBURY — June 17, 2024 — Sudbury Conservation Commission issues second violation notice against Nobscot Scout Reservation. Environmental Planner Lori Capone told the commission June 17 that scout volunteers installed a drainage ditch near the reservation entrance weeks after she explicitly told them not to and to retain an engineer instead. Mayflower Council Scout Executive Juan Osorio, in the role since March 1, and Camping Director Ryan Piazza apologized and outlined new internal sign-offs requiring a volunteer vice president of properties to approve all projects before "picking up a shovel." Chair David Henkels reminded the council that the 2022 order of conditions allows the commission to require a scouts-funded environmental monitor, a $10,000 bond and daily fines. Earlier the commission issued an order of conditions for 73 Hickory Road, cutting floodplain fill from over 1,700 cubic yards to roughly 200, and heard that Sudbury has joined a $95,000 state MVP 2.0 pilot.
