Conservation Commission approves rail trail staging on Davis Farm and Broad Acres

SUDBURY — February 27, 2023 — Sudbury Conservation Commission trades rail trail staging rights for a regraveled parking lot. The commission unanimously approved a license letting the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail contractor stage equipment on Davis Farm and Broad Acres conservation land through June 1, with the contractor agreeing to lay four inches of crushed gravel at the Davis Farm lot and reset a damaged gate bollard in lieu of rent, contingent on town counsel review. Coordinator Lori Capone said the state contract has no funding to pay rent for conservation land. "Every little bit of real estate that we can store material or equipment at is a big asset," contractor representative Mike Rennie told the board. The commission also accepted the April 1 resignation of member Richard Morse, recommended associate Luke Faust for elevation to full membership, appointed Vice Chair Kenneth Holtz to the rail trail task force, and granted the Hop Brook Protection Association a three-year extension on its water chestnut treatment program after a "complete washout" second year forced a change of vendors.
