Capital Improvement Advisory Committee approves 2023 annual report in 7-0 vote
SUDBURY — January 22, 2024 — Sudbury CIAC approves 2023 annual report and braces for a May vote that could abolish it. The Capital Improvement Advisory Committee voted 7-0 on Jan. 22 to submit its 2023 report to the town's annual report after restoring a one-page section of "process recommendations and observations" that member Thomas Travers said had been part of its approved March 8, 2023 filing. Chair Matthew Dallas told members a warrant article dissolving the CIAC could appear at May 6 Annual Town Meeting, citing a state review that found duplication with the Finance Committee; Dallas pointed to the fall vote on the Boston Post Road intersection, which the Finance Committee opposed roughly 13-1 but town meeting approved, as "a great example as to why this committee should still exist." Member Susan Asbedian-Ciaffi reported asbestos abatement at the Fairbanks Community Center is complete, demolition began the day of the meeting, and the project's $900,000 contingency will be tapped for drainage remediation and an owner's project manager contract extension. Capital Night is Feb. 12.
